WIE as an affinity group of IEEE UPIITA-IPN has sought in recent years to bring and involve more women in technology, break the gender gap, find leadership opportunities and skills through regional, national and international conferences, meetings of local chapters, workshops, courses, events by the student branch, project development and more; so following this ideas, we present below the proposal of work for the International Women’s Day, which we will celebrate on Friday, March 8th, 2019, which seeks to promote the development and recognition of the branch at national and international level.

We plan to exploit the social networks to get international reach and starts new relationships with other student branches around the world and promote WIE as affinity group.

First. Who can get involved?

All IEEE members of legal age who are authors and exclusive owners of the rights of the photographs may participate.

Second. Theme

The photographs should reflect the participation of women in any field of science or engineering, highlighting their role, achievements, prominence, effort, overcoming, companionship, success, or in general any moment that sensitively expresses the benefits of the participation of women in science, especially among the younger population.

The objectives are the following:

• Increase the participation of women in science and technology.

• Make visible the participation and achievements of women in the scientific and technological field.

• Raising awareness in society of the importance of women’s participation in all areas of science and engineering, seeking real and effective equality away from gender stereotypes.

Third. Terms

Photographs must be original, without exaggerated retouching, any type of montages or modifications, and may not have been previously awarded in other similar competitions. Only a maximum of two photographs per author will be accepted. The personal information provided in registration will not be transferred to the members of the jury, so that they will only know the title of the photograph and the code of the same. Photographs that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified. The organization may request the author at any time the original file of the photograph to carry out the checks it deems appropriate.

Quarter. Term and submission of applications

The deadline for submitting applications will be from the date of publication of the call until Sunday March 3 at 23:59 (GTM-6), of the current year. The requests along with the photographs will be sent by email to:


Subject: «PHOTO CONTEST, WIE ConCiencia Changing the world».

The mail must contain the following:

Attached pictures in .jpg format with a minimum resolution of 72pp. and a maximum size of 25MB.

Title of each photograph. This can be placed in the name of the .jpg file.

Author’s name, region, country, student branch or university that belong, contact telephone number, career and age.

Brief description of what the photograph represents.

Fifth. Grounds for disqualification.

Photographs that have degrading, offensive, aggressive or discriminatory content.

Photographs that have explicit or implicit messages or political or commercial intent.

Photographs that have participated in other contests or have previously been awarded.

The participants and photographs that do not comply with the conditions established in this call.

Sixth. Jury and fault

The IEEE UPIITA – IPN Student Branch will designate the jury, who according to their experience, will evaluate the photographs according to the thematic axis of this call. This charge will be honorary.

All photos will be published in a Facebook account (www.facebook.com/WIEupiita/) or Instagram (@wieupiita) for the contents. The number of reactions determines the position in a ranking.

Finally, according with the ranking and jury’s qualification there will be a classification of the three best places.

The opinion of the qualifying jury will be unappealable. Any matter not foreseen in this call will be resolved by the Jury.

Seventh. Awards

In addition to recognition, the following prizes will be awarded to the winners:

  • The first three places will be awarded an IEEE membership.
  • Special mentions that the jury considers, without economic value.

The jury may declare a prize void if it is considered that none of the submitted works is of sufficient quality to be worthy of it. All the photographs received will be used to generate a video, which will be presented to recognize the participation of all competitors and promote Women in Engineering around the world.

The publication of the results will be made during the International Women’s Day (8th March 12:00 hrs -6 GTM), as well as the presentation of the video on the social networks already mentioned.
